OSTIV Speaker: "Report from the OSTIV SDP Meeting at the Wasserkuppe, Germany"
Helmut Fendt was born 1958 in Erlangen, a town in Bavaria. The small US airfield near his home attracted him, which led into aviation activities from model aeroplanes to glider and power aerobatics. From 1979 to 1985, he studied mechanical engineering in Munich, being a member of the Akaflieg there. An intermediate at Messerschmitt was followed by an engagement with the Valentin company where he designed and tested motorgliders. In 1990, he changed to the Luftfahrt-Bundesamt, the German aviation authority. Today, he is heading the department of Certification, Environmental, and Radiation Protection.
