Benjamin Neglais has been a sailplane pilot since 1994, accumulating more than 3000 total hours, mainly as a coach and competitor. His first competition in a single seater was in 1998, sparking a long competitive career on the French junior national team in 2001 and 2003, and the senior team from 2005 onwards. In 2006, he was the Senior Vice World Champion in Club Class.
After adding studies in sports management and elite sports training to his original degree in geology for oil exploration, he became a professional coach and team captain of the French National Association. He led the French junior’s and women’s gliding teams from 2009 to 2017, before joining Schempp-Hirth.
In 2018, he returned to competition, finishing 2nd in the Club Class Nationals and securing his return to the French team. In 2019, he achieved 7th during the European Championships in Standard Class and won the Pre-Worlds in France in the new Arcus. He will represent France in Standard Class during the next WGC this summer. Thanks to Benjamin, you can compete vicariously during each FAI Finale Sailplane Grand Prix race through live 3D renderings.
