TOPIC: “The Evolution of Sailplane Wing Design”
Dr. Mark Maughmer received degrees in aerospace engineering from the University of Illinois and Princeton. He has been on the faculty in the Department of Aerospace Engineering at Penn State since 1984. His research activities are in the areas of aerodynamics, aircraft design, flight mechanics, and stability and control. He has served as the chairman of the Configuration and Design Technical Board for the SSA and has been on the board of the Collegiate Soaring Association. He is vice president of OSTIV, as well as technical chairman and the US representative. He has been an active glider pilot since 1972 and a CFIG since 1976 and is the faculty advisor of the Penn State Soaring Club.
