The presentation will describe the current activities and future plans of Avionic, which currently has the rights to the SZD-56-2 Diana-2 glider. Avionic is known primarily as the producer of glider trailers, but also (which is not popular knowledge) as the producer of about 90% of composite structures of EXTRA-300 aerobatic aircraft.

In 2016, the company acquired from the successors of the designer and the previous producer, BogumiƂ Beresia, the right to this Diana-2 glider type. Now its production is resumed. The first glider has already been delivered to the customer.

At the same time, work was undertaken on the modernization of Diana-2 and its motorization. In the near future a modified glider with FES electric drive will be tested. Work has also been done to eliminate the deficiency that the users have complained about.

Currently, the cockpit, water ballast tanks, glider motorization, and redesign of some mechanisms and nodes are undergoing modernization. The next stage, which should be announced in the near future, will be a new 18-meter high performance glider. There is a chance that more information about the new glider will be available soon, during SAA Convention in March 2018. The presentation will show the story of the glider, its designers and expected performance.

But Avionic’s plans are more ambitious. There are plans for the next design. The initial work has already begun, and it will be an open-class sailplane.

The presentation will be complemented by the presentation of glider aerodynamics and original solutions developed by the author.
